The International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) is the official body set up to sanction racing events longer than the official 42.2 km covered by the traditional marathon. The IAU website is basically a one-stop shop for information on ultra running events such as ultramarathons and various competitions which are going on around the world.

It also offers an interesting opportunity to see what ultra running events are coming up in the future, the association’s policy regarding doping and news and results from around the world. There are various profiles of ultra runners which show their times in various competitions, offering a very interesting and useful insight into how the sport is developing. While still a relatively young sport, ultrarunning is becoming more and more prominent around the world and is now seen as one of the prestige endurance events on the sporting calendar.

Whether you are a professional ultra runner or somebody who is interested in taking up the sport on a part-time basis there is information such as statistics, advice and details of future events on the site. The IAU also controls the official world rankings for men ultrarunners and women ultrarunners, something which is becoming more and more competitive as the sport continues to grow.
